The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) organized the fifth edition of “Guatemala Romántica,” a specialized event focused on destination weddings and honeymoons, from May 2 to 7, 2023. The event aimed to promote Guatemala as an attractive location for couples seeking unique wedding and honeymoon experiences.
“Guatemala Romántica” brought together both national and international service providers and planners who specialize in organizing weddings and honeymoons. The agenda included training sessions for international agents, presentations about Guatemala as a destination, business meetings, and technical visits to venues in La Antigua Guatemala and Sololá suitable for such celebrations. Fifteen international wedding planners participated, mainly from the United States, Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. Around forty local entrepreneurs involved in the sector also attended.
According to INGUAT, strengthening this segment is important to position Guatemala as a country with significant diversity reflected in its landscapes, tropical locations, colonial architecture, and archaeological sites that provide unique settings for romantic events. INGUAT stated: "It is important to strengthen the members of this segment and position Guatemala as a country with an impressive mega diversity reflected in every corner of the country—with landscapes full of nature, tropical places, extraordinary colonial architecture and archaeological sites that create unique and romantic settings. In addition to this is the quality of Guatemalan service providers which complements the country as an ideal destination for weddings and honeymoons."
