The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) is encouraging the consumption of fishery and aquaculture products as part of a healthy and balanced diet. According to the ministry, these foods provide essential proteins and nutrients for the population, with particular emphasis on rural communities.

This initiative was highlighted during a meeting of the Municipal Commission for Food and Nutritional Security (COMUSAN), held on Thursday, October 30 at the Río Dulce sub-mayor's office. The event aimed to strengthen food and nutritional security in the municipality.

Technical staff from MAGA’s Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture Regulation (DIPESCA) provided guidance on proper handling and preparation of foods derived from artisanal fishing. They also discussed how these activities contribute to sustainable local economic development.

The event included a tasting session featuring dishes prepared with local ingredients. Organizers emphasized the nutritional value of fishery products and promoted healthy eating habits among attendees.

“With these actions, MAGA reaffirms its commitment to nutrition education and promoting responsible use of fishery resources, thus helping improve the quality of life for Guatemalan families,” said representatives from MAGA.
