Deputy minister meets with Pacific artisanal fishers to discuss sector needs

Artisanal fishers from the Pacific coast met in Iztapa, Escuintla, with Mayra Motta, Deputy Minister of Agricultural Health and Regulations. During the meeting, they shared their concerns and made several requests aimed at improving their living conditions and strengthening the development of the fishing sector.

Municipal authorities and technical staff from the Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture Regulation also attended the meeting. Motta listened to the proposals and stated that they would be reviewed to find joint solutions for those engaged in artisanal fishing in Iztapa, San José, and Sipacate.

She emphasized that "the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) maintains its commitment to support artisanal fishers comprehensively by promoting actions that enhance their well-being and the sustainability of fishing in Guatemala."

The event was described as an opportunity to strengthen communication between authorities and representatives of the sector. It encouraged open dialogue to facilitate coordination on future actions, programs, and projects benefiting fishing communities across the country.
