A group of officers from the National Civil Police (PNC) received training on poultry regulations at the Tecún Umán II customs facility. The session was led by staff from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA).

The training focused on the proper application of sanitary regulations for transporting birds and poultry products. Participants learned about the health risks posed by uncontrolled entry of live birds, fertile eggs, meat, by-products, and other poultry inputs. Such products can spread diseases like Avian Influenza, Newcastle disease, and Salmonella.

According to MAGA, "The MAGA, through the National Poultry Health Program (PROSA) of the Vice Ministry of Agricultural Health and Regulations (VISAR), reaffirms its commitment to supervision, control and sanitary surveillance, promoting preventive and corrective actions in response to non-compliance with current regulations."

PNC officers described the training as practical and clear. They said they now have more tools to identify irregularities during transportation and trade of poultry products. This knowledge will help improve food safety and public health.

MAGA stated that these efforts promote inter-institutional coordination and strengthen border control personnel's ability to protect national poultry production and public health.
