The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has provided technical assistance to residents of Santa Lucía village in Zacapa for the creation of a communal garden. The initiative aims to improve food security and nutrition for local families, as well as support their economic situation.

According to MAGA, the Municipal Rural Extension Agency (AMER) guided community members through the process of establishing the communal cultivation space. AMER professionals offered advice on planning, managing, and maintaining the garden.

During the training sessions, topics included choosing crops suitable for the region, preparing soil, and managing water resources. The instruction also emphasized sustainable production practices and efficient use of natural resources.

"This type of initiative by MAGA contributes to creating sources of varied and accessible foods, generating well-being in the community," according to a statement from MAGA.

The project is part of ongoing efforts by MAGA to promote local food production and strengthen rural communities’ ability to meet their own nutritional needs.
