The central park of San José Pinula hosted the Feria del Agricultor, where families gathered to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and artisanal products directly from local producers. The event was organized by the Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Alimentación (MAGA) with the goal of making fresh and nutritious food more accessible to Guatemalan households at affordable prices.
Farmers from various municipalities in the department of Guatemala, including Villa Canales, San José Pinula, San Miguel Petapa, and Fraijanes participated in the fair. Producers also came from San Martín Jilotepeque in Chimaltenango and Nueva Santa Rosa in Santa Rosa.
Visitors had access to a wide range of fresh products such as pineapple, avocado, banana, eggs, tomato, jalapeño pepper, lime, radish, cheese, coffee, and artisanal yogurt. Traditional foods like chicharrones, tamalitos, chuchitos, chocolate were available for tasting. Other items for sale included flowers, honey, jams, and preserves.
According to organizers: "La Feria del Agricultor no solo promueve el consumo responsable y saludable, sino que también refuerza el vínculo entre productores y consumidores, impulsando el desarrollo rural y la seguridad alimentaria del país." This translates as: "The Farmers' Fair not only promotes responsible and healthy consumption but also strengthens the link between producers and consumers while fostering rural development and food security in the country."
