The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) and the Federation of Cooperatives of the Verapaces (FEDECOVERA) have reported progress in agricultural production processes and technical assistance for farmers in Alta Verapaz. These efforts are part of Administrative Agreement 09-2025 between MAGA and FEDECOVERA.

According to officials, the agreement has strengthened the productive capacity of 21,541 participants through partnerships with associated cooperatives. The support focuses on providing essential services for the production, processing, and marketing of agricultural and forestry products.

Thirty agricultural cooperatives and two service cooperatives have received direct benefits from this initiative. The comprehensive technical assistance includes productive diagnostics, annual production planning, and a total of 1,676 field visits.

Authorities noted that these actions led to the collection and processing of 7,469 quintals of processed products. Additionally, one million three thousand plants were produced in nurseries, and 436,114 board feet of processed wood were transformed. Technical assistance was provided across 2,111 hectares of plantations.

These results were presented by FEDECOVERA authorities to María Fernanda Rivera Dávila, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, during her visit to the Ixcapec Industrial Plant in Cobán, Alta Verapaz.

The production strategy is focused on collecting and processing high-value products such as cardamom, coffee, cocoa, turmeric, allspice, and wood. Construction is also underway for a 1,696-square-meter warehouse and a 420-square-meter training module. Complementary forestry equipment necessary for industry operations is being installed.

Work will continue to complete the technical assistance cycle focused on harvests and finalize projects related to industrial forestry equipment. Plans also include monitoring the completion of construction projects for both the warehouse and training module.
