The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has provided 200 laying hens to 20 families in the Nuevo Porvenir area of Santa Ana. The distribution was organized by the Municipal Rural Extension Agency as part of a rural support program.

According to MAGA, the goal is to strengthen family production and improve the well-being of communities with limited resources. The hens are intended for both household egg consumption and local sales, offering families an opportunity to generate extra income.

In addition, MAGA noted that families can use adult hens as a source of protein, helping promote more nutritious and balanced diets. "With actions, MAGA reaffirms its commitment to sustainable rural development and food security in the department of Petén, working closely with producers to improve their living conditions and foster food self-sufficiency," stated the ministry.

This initiative aligns with efforts in Guatemala to address food security challenges in rural areas.
