Between January 3 and September 30, 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) issued 10,500 phytosanitary export certificates for unprocessed agricultural products. According to MAGA, this measure aims to support agricultural exports from Guatemala while ensuring the quality and safety of exported goods.
The certification process is managed through the Comprehensive Agricultural and Environmental Protection Program (PIPAA), under the Directorate of Plant Health in the Vice Ministry of Agricultural Health and Regulations (VISAR). The program is designed to facilitate access to international markets and improve competitiveness for Guatemalan exporters.
During this period, MAGA provided services to 90 exporting companies involved in shipping products such as chili peppers, tomatoes, planting plants, seeds, papaya, rambutan, among others. Each product category follows specific protocols that include monthly farm visits, monitoring pest traps—such as those for fruit flies—shipment inspections, and checks at packing facilities. These measures are intended to ensure that all products meet optimal conditions before export.
Guatemala’s main export destinations for these certified products include the United States, Canada, countries within the European Union, and over 70 countries worldwide.
“With these actions, MAGA reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing plant health and quality of national agricultural products, boosting their presence in international markets and strengthening the country’s agricultural health,” stated MAGA.
