The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) held a meeting with the World Bank Technical Mission to discuss ways to support Guatemala's agricultural sector. The session was led by María Fernanda Rivera, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food.
Attending from the World Bank were Diego Arias, Manager of the Global Practice for Agriculture and Food for Latin America and the Caribbean; Francisco Bueso, Senior Agriculture Specialist; and Luis De Los Santos, Agricultural Analyst. Other participants included representatives from MAGA’s Directorate of Cooperation, Projects and Trusts, as well as the Directorate of Regional Coordination and Rural Extension (DICORER). Officials from the Ministry of Public Finance and the Secretariat for Planning and Programming of the Presidency (SEGEPLAN) also joined to support international cooperation efforts.
The purpose of this mission is to address policy needs and investment in agriculture. The group continued discussions on possible financing mechanisms for Climate-Smart Agriculture projects, focusing particularly on sustainable watershed management.
According to MAGA, “With this meeting, MAGA reaffirms its commitment to promoting strategic alliances that strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector in response to climate change, fostering sustainable and inclusive rural development.”
This meeting follows ongoing collaboration between Guatemala’s government agencies and international organizations aimed at increasing investment in sustainable agricultural practices.
