The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), in collaboration with the Climate Change Institute (ICC), has concluded a diploma program focused on community adaptation to climate change. The initiative aimed to equip farmers with knowledge and skills to better understand the causes and effects of climate change within their communities, as well as promote adaptive practices.
A total of 25 student farmers from seven Rural Development Learning Centers (CADER) in Retalhuleu participated in the training. The program consisted of eight in-person sessions and a field trip. Training took place at the Training Center (CECAP) located in Santa Fe parcel.
Throughout the course, participants learned about the importance of adapting to climate change at the community level and discussed ways to share this knowledge within their own communities.
After receiving their diplomas, participants expressed interest in further educational opportunities on related topics.
Those who completed the program were members of CADER groups from Las Brisas, La Presa, Santa Fe Centro parcel, Biloma village zone 3, La Montaña Caballo Blanco sector, and Nueva Candelaria.
