EEGSA has launched the 2025 edition of its Accident Prevention Program (PPA), aiming to reinforce electrical safety and education among primary school students in its service areas. The first event for this year took place at Rubén Darío School in zone 6 of Chinautla, where students from first to sixth grade participated in an interactive educational session focused on the dangers of medium-voltage power lines. The session was led by instructor Raúl Pérez, who shared his experience as a survivor of an electrical accident to emphasize the risks associated with electricity and the importance of prevention.

For 2025, EEGSA plans to visit 25 schools across the departments of Guatemala, Escuintla, and Sacatepéquez, seeking to expand the program’s reach and deliver its safety message to more communities.

Victoria Balcárcel, head of EEGSA’s Environmental and Social Management Unit, stated: “Our objective is not only to educate but also to inspire. We want every child to understand that electrical safety is in their hands and that every preventive action can save lives. What they learn today can make a difference tomorrow.”

Since its inception, the PPA has directly reached over 420,000 students and indirectly benefited more than 2.1 million people. In 2024 alone, the program covered more than 7,500 students across 22 schools, positively impacting over 40,000 individuals. These results indicate that targeted educational initiatives can play a significant role in improving community safety.

The program began in 2011 as a pilot project titled “Playing near electricity is a danger to your safety.” It has since evolved into a leading initiative for electrical risk prevention and now includes training for university students, workers, and other groups beyond primary classrooms.

EEGSA continues to expand the PPA under its corporate mission “to contribute to harmony in life for a better world,” focusing on building awareness today for safer generations in the future.
