The Quetzaltenango Tourism Self-Management Committee, with support from the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT), has announced a series of activities aimed at promoting tourism in Quetzaltenango during Holy Week 2023. The program includes ten events designed for both domestic and international visitors.
The agenda features guided tours such as the Necro Tour, Sagrarios Tour, and Route I-9 by bicycle or on foot. Other offerings include a wellness tour with yoga instruction and lunch, excursions to the Santa María, Santiaguito, and Chicabal volcanoes, a gastronomic tour focused on chocolate and shecas, a sensory therapy session using medicinal plants, and an alfombra (carpet) making event. The alfombra activity is free of charge while other activities have special prices for the season.
“These activities are organized by the QAT and can be accessed through contact: 4645 4796 with Yessika Calderón. These activities have special prices for Semana Santa 2023. The carpet-making event is free,” organizers stated.
In addition to these events, INGUAT is promoting the digital guide “El Pregón Quetzaltenango,” which compiles historical information about various processional parades held during Lent and Holy Week in the region.
According to projections from INGUAT’s Department of Research and Market Analysis, Quetzaltenango is expected to receive approximately 476,000 visits from national and international tourists during Holy Week 2023.
“With all promotional actions and preparations in the tourism sector, according to projections from INGUAT’s Department of Research and Market Analysis, it is estimated that Quetzaltenango will receive around 476 thousand visits for national and international tourism during Semana Santa 2023,” said INGUAT representatives.
