Guatemala was recognized with the award for best stand in the "Countries and Regions" category at the International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2023. The award was received by the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) on behalf of Guatemala.
The Guatemalan stand covered an area of 198 square meters and featured a contemporary architectural design intended to refresh the country's image while maintaining its connection to its roots. Located in the Americas pavilion, the stand offered virtual and mixed reality attractions, allowing visitors to experience landscapes and sounds from key destinations such as Antigua Guatemala, Tikal, and Semana Santa in Guatemala, which has recently been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
The stand also included spaces for culinary demonstrations and public interaction. Cultural presentations were performed by INGUAT's Marimba group, Ballet Folklórico, and the Garífuna group "Hawani Garinagu." The schedule for these performances included sessions throughout Saturday and Sunday.
From January 18 to 20, twenty-one Guatemalan business representatives met with international counterparts during scheduled meetings. On January 21 and 22, when FITUR opened to the general public, Guatemala provided information about its tourism offerings along with cultural demonstrations.
Guatemala participated as a Partner Country at FITUR’s 43rd edition, using this opportunity to showcase its strengths and potential for promoting tourism services.
