The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), through its Vice Ministry of Food and Nutritional Security (VISAN), began distributing food assistance to 11,434 families facing food insecurity on December 2. The program targets vulnerable communities in several departments.

Distribution is being carried out free of charge and follows a planned schedule to ensure all beneficiaries receive aid. According to MAGA, the breakdown by department is as follows: Cubulco in Baja Verapaz receives 1,344 rations; Casillas in Santa Rosa receives 3,926 rations; and Cobán in Alta Verapaz receives 6,164 rations.

Each family is provided with a package containing rice, beans, vegetable oil, nixtamalized corn flour, oats, sugar, and a fortified blend of corn and soy flour. These items are intended to improve dietary quality for recipient households and reduce risks related to food insecurity.

The distribution process is managed by staff from the Directorate of Food and Nutritional Assistance (DAAN) under VISAN. Oversight from the Office of the Comptroller General ensures transparency at every stage.

“With these actions, we reaffirm our institutional commitment to support communities in vulnerable situations and promote conditions that strengthen their well-being and comprehensive development,” stated MAGA officials.
