In Champerico, Retalhuleu, nutritionist David Bámaca from the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Component of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) participated in a session to measure the weight and height of children under five years old who are underweight or recovering from acute malnutrition.
The event was organized by the Luis Amigo Nutritional Recovery Center (CRN), which is managed by the Hermanas Terciarias Capuchinas de la Sagrada Familia Foundation in Champerico.
During the activity, Bámaca gave a talk on healthy eating. He explained that "a healthy diet is one that provides all the necessary nutrients for the body to grow and stay strong." He emphasized that good nutrition not only helps prevent diseases but is also essential for child care. He highlighted "the importance of regular consumption of fruits and vegetables, which are essential due to their vitamins and minerals for development at every stage."
The initiative aims to monitor children's nutritional health and empower families with practical knowledge so they can provide adequate nutrition at home. This approach contributes to preventing malnutrition and supports community well-being.
Staff from the CRN distributed food bags to each mother during the session and encouraged them to use these resources properly to support their children's recovery process.
