Guatemala is taking part in the ITB tourism fair in Berlin, Germany, as part of its strategy to promote the country internationally. The Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) is leading a delegation at the event, which runs from March 7 to 9. The delegation includes support from Guatemala's embassy in Germany and eight businesses from the tourism sector: Maya Trails, STP Guatemala, Mayan Gateway, Martsam Travel, Clark Tours, Tikal Go, Maya Sky, and Expedición Panamundo.
The Guatemalan stand at ITB features a modern design showcasing the country's tourist attractions and serves as a space for business meetings between Guatemalan entrepreneurs and potential partners.
In addition to business activities, Guatemala’s presence will include performances by INGUAT's Folkloric Ballet to highlight 3,000 years of cultural heritage. Visitors can also sample coffee provided by Guatemalan Coffees.
According to data from 2022, German tourism brought 17,350 visitors to Guatemala. These travelers stayed an average of 11.31 days and spent about USD 119.32 per day on average. Their visits contributed approximately USD 23.41 million to Guatemala’s economy that year. In total, European tourists accounted for 122,196 visits in 2022.
ITB Berlin has been held annually since 1966 and is recognized as one of the world's leading travel trade shows. Organizers describe it as a central forum for communication and marketing within Germany’s travel industry.
Berlin is considered an important venue for Guatemala due to its significance as a consolidated source market under the country's Sustainable Tourism Master Plan (2015-2025).
