The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) is organizing an event aimed at encouraging domestic tourism during Holy Week. The event, scheduled for March 18 and 19 in Ciudad Cayalá, will feature an exhibition of tourism services and destinations. Its goal is to provide information to the public to help them plan their upcoming vacations.
The exhibition aligns with the “Viajando por Guate” strategy and will be open to visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on both days. Activities planned for Saturday, March 18 include a performance by the Garífuna group "Hawani Garinagú" at 9:00 a.m., stilt walkers between noon and 3:00 p.m., face painting and balloon twisting from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and 360° photography available throughout the day.
On Sunday, March 19, activities will continue with all-day 360° photography, face painting and stilt walkers from 10:00 a.m. to noon, an alfombra (carpet) workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., balloon twisting and stilt walkers from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., another performance by "Hawani Garinagú" at 2:00 p.m., and a folkloric ballet presentation by INGUAT from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
A total of twenty-eight participants are expected at the exhibition, including tour operators such as Guate Tour, Mochibusito gt, La Camioneta, Expedición Extrema Guatemala, Direct Adventure Guatemala, and Experience Guatemala Tours And Travel; hotels like Villas Maya Jade, Casa Xara, El Faro, Cabelas, Uxlabil S.A., Colibrí Eco Lodge, and El Olvido; as well as destinations including Parque Chatún and San Pedro la Laguna.
Service providers such as Tag Airlines, Correos de Guatemala, Sello Q (INGUAT), delegations from Quetzaltenango and Izabal (both INGUAT), along with tourist information services offered by INGUAT will also be present.
Travel agencies participating in the event include En ruta x Guat and Guate Nuestra.
According to INGUAT’s Department of Market Research and Analysis projections for Holy Week tourism this year indicate that internal travel could reach approximately three million two hundred seventy thousand people nationwide. This movement is expected to generate about two billion sixty million quetzals in economic activity.
