The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) is taking steps to encourage domestic tourism during Holy Week 2023. As part of this effort, INGUAT will host an exhibition featuring tourism services and destinations on March 18 and 19 in Ciudad Cayalá. The event aims to provide information to the public so they can plan their upcoming vacations.
The exhibition supports the “Viajando por Guate” strategy and will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. both days. Activities scheduled for Saturday, March 18 include a presentation by the Garífuna group “Hawani Garinagú” at 9:00 a.m., stilt walkers from noon to 3:00 p.m., face painting and balloon twisting from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and 360° photography available throughout the day.
On Sunday, March 19, activities continue with all-day access to 360° photography, face painting and stilt walking from 10:00 a.m. to noon, an alfombra workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., balloon twisting and stilt walking from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., another performance by “Hawani Garinagú” from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a folkloric ballet performance by INGUAT between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
A total of twenty-eight participants are expected at the event, including tour operators such as Guate Tour, Mochibusito gt, La Camioneta, Expedición Extrema Guatemala, Direct Adventure Guatemala, and Experience Guatemala Tours And Travel; hotels like Villas Maya Jade Hotel, Casa Xara, El Faro, Cabelas, Uxlabil S.A., Colibrí Eco Lodge Hotel, and El Olvido; as well as several destinations including Parque Chatún and San Pedro la Laguna.
Other organizations involved are service providers such as Tag Airlines and Correos de Guatemala along with travel agencies En ruta x Guat and Guate Nuestra.
According to INGUAT’s Department of Research and Market Analysis, internal tourism during Holy Week is projected at around three million two hundred seventy thousand people generating approximately two billion sixty million quetzales in economic activity.
