In recent years, digital fraud attempts have seen a significant rise, according to international reports. Criminals use various techniques such as phishing, smishing, malware, identity theft, and information theft to access personal and financial data.

Banco G&T Continental has emphasized that client security remains a priority. The bank outlined several common signs of cyber threats and provided guidance on prevention measures.

"Unlike what we might imagine, many digital scams do not begin with a 'hooded hacker' writing lines of code in the dark. Often, everything starts with an apparently harmless email, a message on social networks or a call that sounds convincing," the statement said.

Fraudsters often rely on trust, urgency, and curiosity to convince individuals to voluntarily provide their information. Some warning signs include communications that create panic or pressure—such as messages claiming "Your account will be suspended!" or "Confirm your identity now." The bank advises recipients to pause and verify the source before responding.

Fake links and deceptive domains are also common tactics. Fraudulent websites can closely mimic legitimate ones by changing just one letter in the web address. Banco G&T Continental recommends typing website addresses directly into browsers rather than clicking unknown links.

Another risk comes from malicious attachments. Opening unexpected files—even those appearing as PDFs or images—can result in devices being infected with malware.

The bank stresses that neither Banco G&T Continental nor any legitimate financial institution will request PINs, passwords, card numbers or security codes via email, message or phone call: "If they do so, it is a scam."

Criminals may also create fake social media profiles imitating recognized brands to offer false promotions or request sensitive data. Users are encouraged to check usernames carefully and review follower counts and post comments for authenticity.

To protect themselves online, individuals should enable two-factor authentication whenever possible; use strong and unique passwords for each account; keep software and antivirus programs updated; avoid sharing screenshots of banking details; and regularly review account statements.

"In Banco G&T Continental we constantly work to strengthen security across all our digital channels. However, every click counts—and you play an important role too," the release stated.

"The best defense against fraud is information. Stay alert, question anything suspicious and do not hesitate to verify before acting."
