The automated system for producing ornamental seeds was the focus of a visit on Tuesday by Mayra Motta, Vice Minister of Agricultural Health and Regulations, to the greenhouses of Fruticultura in Jalapa.

Motta observed how technology and innovation are being used to strengthen a production chain aimed at export markets. She viewed the automated operation of greenhouses equipped with solar panels that power systems managing humidity, temperature, ventilation, and sprinkler irrigation.

These technological tools help create optimal conditions for each stage of cultivation and increase production efficiency.

Motta also watched the process for obtaining, handling, and storing pollen. This delicate work is essential for ensuring the genetic purity of ornamental plants. She then toured areas where seeds are stored and prepared for export. The integrated production chain allows the company to produce between 1.2 billion and 1.5 billion seeds annually.

During her visit, Motta emphasized that women make up 60% of the workforce involved in seed production. Their fine motor skills are key in handling flowers and extracting pollen. These jobs benefit more than 4,700 families in the department.

"The Ministry of Agriculture reaffirms its support for productive initiatives that combine innovation, employment, and development for the country," stated the ministry.
