Alumbrados EEGSA will participate for the second consecutive year in the Festival de la Luz in Antigua Guatemala. The 2025 edition of this international event will transform the colonial city with light installations inspired by magical realism.

This year, Alumbrados EEGSA will pay tribute to three major figures of magical realism through more than 150 illuminated structures at three notable sites in Antigua Guatemala. Tanque La Unión will feature a tribute to "Hombres de maíz" by Guatemalan Nobel laureate Miguel Ángel Asturias. Parque Belén will display scenes from "Pedro Páramo" by Mexican author Juan Rulfo. Alameda Santa Rosa will transport visitors to Macondo, the setting of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Colombian Nobel laureate Gabriel García Márquez.

The organizers highlight the significance of these authors for Latin American literature, giving special mention to Miguel Ángel Asturias. "He was one of the precursors of magical realism and, through his work, not only elevated regional literature but also gave voice to indigenous peoples and placed Guatemala on the world literary map," states EEGSA.

The illuminated structures will be on display from July 8 to July 27, between 6:00 p.m. and midnight each day. This schedule extends beyond the festival’s main days (July 18 and 19), allowing local residents and visitors more opportunities to view the installations in a less crowded environment. The displays are designed for appreciation both during daylight and nighttime hours.

As part of the festival’s special program, EEGSA will illuminate Antigua’s iconic Arco de Santa Catalina with a high-level mapping show on July 18 and 19. The show is produced in collaboration with Abit, a Colombian company recognized for its expertise in visual technology.

EEGSA fully funds all aspects of Alumbrados EEGSA—including design, materials, labor, installation, and electricity consumption—as a gift to users within its service area covering Sacatepéquez, Guatemala City, and Escuintla.

According to EEGSA: "With this participation, EEGSA reaffirms its commitment to culture, Guatemalan talent and regional integration, convinced that art and literature are fundamental tools for strengthening community spirit and cultural development."

Alumbrados EEGSA has been active since 2021 in Guatemala and is inspired by Grupo EPM’s experience in Medellín. The project has created over 100 jobs—directly or indirectly—and has involved artisans and welders who have built more than 600 luminous structures since inception. With an investment exceeding 14 million quetzales so far, it has reached over five million people across several regions.

Abit is described as a Colombian engineering firm specializing in integrated solutions involving lighting technology as well as audio, video, and electrical energy services. It serves cities, energy distributors, industry clients, and commercial entities throughout Colombia and Central America.

EEGSA is part of EPM Guatemala.
