María Fernanda Rivera Dávila, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) of Guatemala, attended the 23rd Regular Meeting of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (JIA), which is part of the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2025 in Brazil.
During her remarks, Rivera Dávila expressed gratitude to Dr. Manuel Otero, outgoing Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), for his leadership at the institution. She highlighted IICA's support for Guatemala through initiatives such as the Regional Agricultural Research Consortia program (CRIA), noting its role in revitalizing agricultural research in the country.
Rivera Dávila also reaffirmed Guatemala’s commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation to address shared challenges in agriculture, including agroclimatic events, deforestation, soil loss, and climate vulnerability.
She emphasized IICA’s importance as a strong system for building solutions through technology, innovation, and cooperation among countries.
The meeting on November 4 included the election of a new Director General for IICA for the 2026-2030 term.
