The General Accident Hospital “Ceibal” has opened a new Logistics Center, an initiative led by the hospital’s Medical Directorate. The main goal of this project is to improve the flow of patients toward outpatient consultations and enhance their waiting experience, according to Dr. Miguel Rodríguez, director of the unit.
The new center features an information kiosk with four service windows and a garden area equipped with tables for meals. Previously, the site was used as a children’s play area, then as parking and ambulance storage, and during the COVID-19 pandemic it served as a waiting area with tents.
This facility now offers 350 chairs, multimedia screens, an audio system, high-speed internet, an information kiosk with four service windows, a coffee station, and a landscaped area with tables for eating. Sixteen attendants work at the center under José Antonio Migoya Gracias, who oversees logistics and process reengineering.
Patients have already participated in activities such as a healthy eating workshop where they prepared their own sandwiches. The hospital handles about one thousand consultations daily. With this new center, only patients close to being seen enter the main building while others wait in a spacious modern area where educational talks and cultural or musical activities are held.
In the afternoons, employees use the space for training and recreational activities aimed at fostering community spirit. “We are dignifying both our members waiting for outpatient consultations and our workers through modernization and quality human support,” said Rodríguez.
Laura, one of the hospital’s members who attended the healthy eating workshop, commented: “We don’t just come for a consultation but also to learn. Last time there was an oral health activity; today I’m surprised by this dynamic workshop.” She expressed gratitude for these initiatives and encouraged similar efforts across all IGSS centers.
A coffee station has been set up for members using the logistics center. Carmen Bautista said she felt “grateful and happy to see positive changes that benefit us members. Being able to come here, have coffee with bread, and receive informative talks is something we should acknowledge and congratulate the hospital director and his team for.”
Dr. Karen Utrilla, head of Outpatient Consultations, explained that after receiving medical attention patients will be guided by support staff to complete administrative procedures at the logistics center’s multifunctional kiosk.
Dr. Rudy Manuel López from Preventive Medicine praised the project: “It dignifies patients and makes them feel welcome at their appointments in the hospital. I reiterate my congratulations to management; this brings great prestige to IGSS.”
