The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has organized a series of Technical Agroclimatic Tables (MTA) aimed at strengthening risk management for the upcoming December to March period. These sessions took place on December 1 and 2 in various departments, including Jalapa, El Progreso, Sololá, Quetzaltenango, Petén, Zacapa, Chiquimula, Huehuetenango, and the southwestern region encompassing Suchitepéquez and Retalhuleu.

The main objective was to analyze the climate outlook for the next four months and to reinforce agricultural measures that help address changing weather conditions. According to MAGA officials, these forums are intended to improve planning and decision-making in agriculture by presenting climate perspectives and agroclimatic analysis.

“These spaces for analysis are convened by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA),” stated the ministry. “The MTA strengthen planning and decision-making in the agricultural sector by presenting climate perspectives and agroclimatic analysis. This information allows producers and local actors to adapt promptly to climate variability.”

During these meetings, participants developed agricultural recommendations based on technical data as well as input from farmers actively involved in the discussions. The ministry indicated that these recommendations will be shared publicly in the coming days.

In addition to generating guidance for local producers, departmental offices of MAGA led presentations on rainfall analyses along with other key information needed for directing agricultural activities across different territories.
