Participants in the Beekeeping Health Diploma program in San Luis, Petén, recently received specialized training on proper procedures for collecting samples of Varroa destructor, a parasite that affects bees.
The training was led by the technical team from the Apiculture Unit of the Agricultural Development Directorate (DAGRO), which is part of the Vice Ministry for Petén Affairs (VIPETÉN). The instruction focused on teaching attendees how to correctly prepare and send samples to laboratories, ensuring accurate analysis of Varroa destructor presence.
According to the press release, "With this, safer and more sustainable production is promoted in line with good practices promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA)."
These efforts aim to improve beekeeping management in the region and strengthen producers' skills.
