The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) held its third Pediatric Otolaryngology Day at the General Hospital of Diseases in Zone 9. The event aimed to advance appointments and speed up medical care for children covered by the institute.
During the activity, children of various ages received specialized assistance without long waits, allowing for timely diagnoses and comprehensive care. IGSS specialists evaluated more than 400 children, focusing on conditions related to ears, nose, and throat.
These pediatric days have been organized for over a decade as part of IGSS's commitment to improving response times, optimizing services, and ensuring prompt care for affiliated children.
Dr. Luis Guerra, head of the Otolaryngology Service at the General Hospital of Diseases, said: "This type of day helps reduce waiting lists and strengthen access to specialized evaluations, seeking early diagnoses and appropriate treatments for young patients."
Yelchy Hernández, a parent attending the event, added: "During the week it is very difficult for me, but for my son's health I always have to make an effort. Having the opportunity to come on the weekend is a great advantage. Thanks to IGSS, my son is well."
The initiative is one among several actions by IGSS to improve healthcare delivery and access for its members.
