The Instituto Nacional de Electrificación (INDE) has invested Q13.8 million in a rural electrification project in San Bartolomé Jocotenango, Quiché. On November 12, INDE representatives inaugurated the new electrical infrastructure in the Las Cuevas settlement, providing electricity to 82 households and benefiting 492 people.

The project included the construction of 8.3 kilometers of power lines at a cost of Q2.2 million. This effort aims to provide energy access to families who have been waiting for this service for years.

Local authorities and residents expressed their gratitude during the inauguration event. “With the launch of this service, families will be able to improve their living conditions and diversify their economic activities,” one statement read.

Earlier this year, two other villages and six settlements in San Bartolomé Jocotenango also received electrification with an additional investment of Q11.6 million by INDE. The institute emphasized its commitment to expanding rural electrification and universal energy access as part of efforts to support Guatemala’s economic, educational, and social development.

INDE is responsible for overseeing rural electrification initiatives throughout Guatemala, aiming to increase energy coverage in underserved areas.
