The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) has announced several initiatives aimed at boosting tourism in the southeastern region of the country, particularly in Santa Rosa. Starting in March, INGUAT will open a Regional Tourism Office in Monterrico to strengthen its presence not only in Santa Rosa but also in the neighboring departments of Jutiapa and Jalapa. The office is expected to support important projects and encourage sustainable local tourism development.

Santa Rosa has been identified as one of the initial destinations for promotion under the “Viajando por Guate” project. This initiative seeks to stimulate domestic tourism by offering various activities and showcasing what different regions have to offer.

In coordination with local authorities, INGUAT has facilitated the establishment of a Tourist Security Division office from the National Civil Police in Monterrico. The purpose is to provide safety for both residents and visitors, including national and international tourists.

Another key effort involves launching a new tourism brand for Monterrico. According to INGUAT, this branding emerged from workshops where local stakeholders expressed their desire to highlight Monterrico as a family-friendly destination with diverse marine flora and fauna, as well as a site dedicated to species conservation and sports activities.

The new brand’s logo features elements characteristic of Monterrico, such as a turtle, sun, water droplet, sea snail, and symbols representing biodiversity through dynamic lines.

INGUAT stated that these actions are part of collaborative efforts between public and private sectors intended to benefit local communities by offering accessible packages, strengthening institutional presence, and enhancing security—factors expected to have a positive impact on the economy of Monterrico, Santa Rosa, and surrounding areas.
