Corporacion Multi Inversiones issued the following announcement on Sept. 8.
With the aim of promoting the protection and conservation of the ecosystems of Alta Verapaz, Hidroeléctrica Renace motivated the reforestation activity in the community of Chiyó by providing landowners with 4,500 trees to be planted on their plots, 147 acres, equivalent to more than 6 hectares.
This activity is part of the Environmental Transcendence axis of the Environmental Conservation Strategy that Hidroeléctrica Renace implements in Alta Verapaz, with the aim of protecting and conserving the environment. The Strategy considers Legal Compliance, the Implementation of Best Practices and Environmental Importance.
Prior to reforestation, a study was carried out in the area, prioritizing the water recharge zones and the upper parts of 3 water sources. Community members were also given educational talks on the care, protection and recovery of the watersheds in the area and the importance of trees in the hydrological process of water.
“In the Axis of Environmental Transcendence, we implement projects focused on adaptation actions to climate change. These projects support the recovery and conservation of the environment, as well as the improvement of agricultural practices in the areas neighboring the project ”indicated Byron Hernández, Environment and Social Management Specialist
The members of the Chiyó community expressed their gratitude for the donated plants, as well as the accompaniment and planning of the activity, which was carried out keeping the health measures of social distancing, use of a mask and use of alcohol gel.
