The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has supported fieldwork aimed at improving soil productivity and sustainability in the village of Estanzuela Arriba, Quezaltepeque, Chiquimula. The initiative involved collaboration with the local Center for Learning for Rural Development (CADER).
During the event, participants practiced soil tillage and incorporated organic matter into the land. These sustainable management techniques are considered essential for land conservation and agricultural production.
By adding organic materials to the soil, its structure and fertility can be improved. This benefits crops and reduces reliance on chemical fertilizers. Such practices also help prevent soil erosion and support water conservation.
MAGA continues to work closely with CADER groups, which are made up of local farmers. According to MAGA, these efforts "promote fundamental activities for the agricultural and economic development of rural communities."
