A virtual discussion was held to share successful experiences in the use of Strategic Information Systems within Guatemala's agricultural sector. The event aimed to highlight effective practices involving georeferenced information to support climate action and strategic decision-making.
Experts from the Directorate of Strategic Geographic Information and Risk Management (DIGEGR) at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) presented their work with geospatial tools. These tools are used for agroclimatic management, agricultural planning, soil monitoring, and land cover analysis.
The session included participants from government agencies, the private sector, and independent researchers. Attendees acknowledged the value of georeferenced data for managing and planning agricultural development.
Organized by MAGA through DIGEGR, the 90-minute event focused on key points from the Platform for Climate Action in Agriculture of Latin America and the Caribbean (PLACA). It took place under the framework of the Thematic Working Group on Research, Development, and Technological Innovation (GTT4), which is currently coordinated by MAGA.
During the discussion, it was emphasized that information systems developed by MAGA help improve data quality and its application in territorial planning. This progress has been achieved through collaboration with national and international partners committed to sustainable development.
According to organizers: "Thanks to this space for dialogue and cooperation, MAGA strengthens regional integration and promotes the use of strategic information as a key tool to drive climate action and sustainable land management."
