The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, María Fernanda Rivera Dávila, met in Madrid with Miguel Ángel Royo Bordonada, head of Studies at the National School of Health at Spain's Instituto de Salud Carlos III. The meeting focused on exchanging experiences related to research and food policy and establishing academic training partnerships in nutrition.

During their discussions, both parties examined topics such as creating nutritional profiles, protecting producers and consumers through labeling regulations, ensuring the right to information, and combating misleading advertising. They also addressed the need to strengthen oversight of food contaminants and additives to provide healthier and more transparent products.

Rivera Dávila said that addressing nutritional challenges is a priority for the country. "The development of nutritional profiles will guide both the productive sector and consumers while raising safety and quality standards in food," she stated.

Guatemala intends to align its food policies with international standards through this cooperation. According to Rivera Dávila, "Collaboration with the National School of Health at Instituto de Salud Carlos III represents an important step toward clearer regulations, responsible labeling, and sustainable strategies that promote better nutrition and public health."

This partnership aims to improve national nutrition policies by adopting practices from international institutions experienced in health research.
