Corporacion Multi Inversiones recently issued the following announcement.
More than 300 entrepreneurs and representatives of multilateral organizations met at the First Mesoamerican Business Meeting to discuss energy, trade facilitation, infrastructure and logistics.
In four panels developed yesterday, the participants shared their views in order to improve the regional economy and become a global investment destination.
The business meeting began with the priorities and opportunities that Mesoamerica has in energy. Panelists agreed that the region should work on the issue of energy interconnection and that it is one of the top priorities for countries.
Emín Abufele, an entrepreneur of the electricity industry in Honduras, said that the government and politicians have to get their hands off the sector, since it must be an open, transparent market where the private sector competes on equal terms to achieve the best rates for the local consumer and in this way make Honduras a highly competitive country.
Juan Luis Bosch, Guatemalan businessman co-president of Multi Investment Corporation, said that the energy of the future "has to be truly the best technology of the moment at the lowest possible cost, interconnected regionally and with contracts for the sale of international energy."
Meanwhile, Mey Lang Hung, Corporate Affairs Manager for Walmart Mexico and Central America, said it is necessary to work on the automation of processes for the movement of goods and services in the region.
Orlando Solórzano, Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce of Nicaragua, mentioned that the region must have clarity in trade objectives and convey the message to the world that Mesoamerica is being integrated.
Infrastructure and logistics
Enrique Bello Roch, president of the Road Communication Group of Mexico, stressed that for the region to be more competitive and have a better quality of life, connectivity is necessary.
"The Region has to have a long-term sustainability of electricity," said Luis Bosch, a Guatemalan businessman.
The businessman said that although there are interconnected roads there are still bottlenecks, because there are sections that are not in the best conditions, so a regional train is necessary.
"The train must go hand in hand with a gas pipeline, a fiber optic and energy transmission line, which is a linear system from Mexico to Panama," he said.
