The Ministerio de Comunicaciones, the Guatemalan government’s communications and infrastructure ministry, posted a series of updates on December 2, 2025, detailing ongoing repair work at kilometer 81 of the CA-2 Occidente highway in Escuintla. The posts focused on efforts to address damages caused by failures in transversal piping beneath the roadway.
In its first update, the Ministry stated: " Seguimos trabajando por tu seguridad y una mejor movilidad
En el km 81 de la ruta CA-2 Occidente, Escuintla, atendemos los daños causados por la falla de tuberías transversales con una intervención integral y estratégica." (December 2, 2025).
Further details of the intervention were provided in a follow-up post: "La intervención incluye:
Corte y excavación del área
Colocación de tubería
Compactación de tierra
Relleno estructural
Base y nueva carpeta asfáltica sobre un tramo de 25 metros" (December 2, 2025).
The Ministry also specified technical aspects of the project: "¿Qué estamos haciendo?
Instalamos 32 metros de tubería nueva de 60” en PVC corrugado de alta resistencia, como parte del proyecto OC–006–2025." (December 2, 2025).
The CA-2 Occidente is a key route for commerce and transportation in Guatemala’s southern region. Infrastructure maintenance projects such as these are crucial for ensuring road safety and efficient mobility for both commercial and private vehicles.
