A spay and neuter campaign was conducted in Parramos, Chimaltenango, on November 18 and 19. The event aimed to promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. It was organized through a partnership between the Municipality of Parramos, local volunteers, and the Animal Welfare Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA).
During the campaign, 40 animals—both dogs and cats—were treated. This effort supports population control among pets and seeks to improve overall community well-being.
Before the campaign, municipal staff participated in training sessions on November 5, 6, and 7 focused on animal protection and responsible pet care. These trainings were intended to strengthen their skills for better animal management in the area.
On November 17, stray animals were humanely captured with help from local volunteers as part of preparations for the campaign. Organizers ensured that all procedures were carried out safely and respectfully.
According to organizers: "These actions reflect the commitment of the UBA with the protection and ethical management of animal populations through sustainable initiatives coordinated with institutional and community actors."
