The Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) hosted the 2025 edition of its PINE seminar, focusing on Applied Psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology (PINE) and complex trauma. The event was led by Rubén Lescano, an Argentine physician specializing in psychiatry and psychology, who is recognized for his expertise in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating complex trauma.

Carlos Roderico Martínez, coordinator of the master's program in Integral Medical Psychology at UFM, said: "This edition of the PINE seminar, from August 28 to 30, took place over three days full of knowledge, discussion of clinical cases and interaction between health professionals and undergraduate students in Clinical Psychology from the Department of Psychology, as well as from the master's program in Integral Medical Psychology from the Graduate School. They also had the opportunity to share questions and reflections with Dr. Lescano."

Topics discussed during the seminar included biological principles and main axes of psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology, introduction to trauma and complex trauma, neurobiology of trauma, resilience and recovery, interdisciplinary assessment, and therapeutic interventions based on an integrated approach to clinical cases involving complex trauma diagnoses.

Psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology explores how nervous, immune, endocrine, and psychological systems interact to affect health and disease. Understanding these connections is seen as essential for promoting human well-being and coordinating healthcare efforts based on scientific evidence.

"In this seminar we had the opportunity to review the theoretical foundations of complex trauma as well as make corresponding clinical correlations with the presentation of clinical cases," Dr. Martínez explained.

The psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology seminar is part of the academic curriculum for UFM's master's degree in Integral Medical Psychology at its Graduate School.

Dr. Rubén Lescano directs the Centro Integral de Psicoterapias con Soporte Empírico (Integral Center for Evidence-Based Psychotherapy), which focuses on training, evaluation, and support for survivors of psychological trauma. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in psychology with a focus on applied cognitive neuroscience at Universidad Maimónides.

According to UFM officials, academic exchanges like those offered by PINE 2025 are intended to strengthen training for professionals able to understand human beings through an integrated perspective.
