The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has taken steps to enhance agricultural knowledge among young people in Alta Verapaz. Through the Municipal Rural Extension Agency (AMER) in Chisec, MAGA has supported the creation of a learning plot focused on the cultivation of Roselle (Rosa de Jamaica).
This training initiative was developed with the collaboration of the Youth Rural Development Learning Center (CADER Juvenil) located in El Paraíso II village. Participants were able to learn about community-based marketing and value-added processes, in addition to agricultural techniques.
The Roselle seeds used for this project were supplied by the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (ICTA) from Fray Bartolomé de las Casas. This allowed young participants to apply their skills and knowledge in a practical setting, resulting in harvests and tasting activities.
"This joint action promotes youth leadership, productive innovation, and the creation of economic opportunities within the community. MAGA, through AMER and CADER Juvenil, remains committed to practical learning and local development, seeking to improve families' quality of life," stated officials.
