The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has reiterated its commitment to eliminating violence against women and advancing gender equality in the agricultural sector. The announcement comes on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
MAGA’s Gender Unit is implementing programs and initiatives aimed at supporting women and upholding their rights. The unit provides guidance to various ministry departments to ensure that goods and services offered encourage productive development among female farmers.
Highlighted efforts include training sessions on gender issues, economic empowerment for rural women, and support for agricultural entrepreneurship projects.
"The economic empowerment is key to breaking economic dependence, which is one of the manifestations of violence against women, especially in rural areas," stated MAGA’s Gender Unit.
The ministry also offers reporting channels through its Probity Unit. This service addresses cases of workplace mistreatment, sexual harassment, and violence so that women can speak out within the institution and help create environments free from violence.
