Authorities are maintaining ongoing monitoring in 107 municipalities across the country due to the possibility of temperatures dropping below 5°C at the end and beginning of this week. This information comes from an agrometeorological analysis by the Centro de Información Estratégica Agropecuario of the Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Alimentación (MAGA), based on forecasts from the Instituto de Sismología, Vulcanología e Hidrología (INSIVUMEH).

The report notes that humidity is entering from both coasts, resulting in partly cloudy skies and sunny days, but with cold nights and early mornings. These conditions are particularly pronounced in the Central and Western Highlands.

According to MAGA, "This situation increases the risk of frost, as these conditions could affect crops such as vegetables, coffee, and pastures, so MAGA recommends that producers take preventive measures."

Among the recommendations for farmers are avoiding early grazing when there is frost, keeping water at a suitable temperature for livestock, reinforcing greenhouses, and preserving soil moisture to reduce heat loss during nighttime hours.

The bulletin also warns that most agricultural areas currently have soil moisture levels below 25 percent. This low moisture level makes crops more vulnerable to damage from expected low temperatures.

"With these actions, MAGA reaffirms its commitment to provide timely information to prevent damage to agricultural production during the cold season, which could extend until March next year," stated MAGA.
