As part of its ongoing efforts to promote social security awareness, the Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social (IGSS) recently conducted a training session for staff members from various companies that participate in the Empresa Clinic System. The event aimed to inform around 40 employees about key principles of social security, including occupational safety, technological innovation, electronic portals, and IGSS's core programs such as Sickness, Maternity and Accidents (EMA), and the Invalidity, Old Age and Survivors (IVS) program.
Dr. Rudy López, head of the Department of Preventive Medicine at IGSS, explained: "With our Empresa Clinic program we have managed to reduce the time workers spend attending their medical consultations, which benefits both employers and workers together."
The training was held at Universidad Panamericana (UPANA), where IGSS experts addressed questions and concerns from participants to ensure an effective and dynamic learning experience. Topics covered included occupational safety, technology and innovation, as well as information on monetary benefits provided by IGSS.
María José Pereira, who is responsible for Occupational Health and Safety at Unipharm, commented on the value of these forums: "These training forums are extremely important so that we can guide our work teams about Social Security. In addition, companies have benefited from medical days, vaccinations and laboratories thanks to this great inter-institutional alliance."
IGSS indicated that similar activities will be gradually implemented in other departments.
