The Department of Economic Analysis at the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH) has reported an increase in fuel prices in Guatemala, citing international market conditions as the primary cause.
According to monitoring by the DGH, the average price per gallon has risen by Q1.00 for gasoline and Q0.50 for diesel at some service stations. The current average prices for fuels this week in the metropolitan area are as follows: self-service stations list premium gasoline at Q29.43, regular gasoline at Q28.42, and diesel at Q27.49; while full-service stations report premium gasoline at Q30.49, regular gasoline at Q29.45, and diesel at Q28.52.
Heydy Godínez, head of the Department of Economic Analysis of the DGH, explained the reasons behind this upward trend: “Among these we can highlight ‘the conditions of international crude oil processes and its derivatives, maintenance in refineries, seasonal factors and geopolitical factors’.”
The Ministry of Energy and Mines clarified that it does not set fuel prices in Guatemala because the country is not a producer and depends on external factors.
