More than 100 officers from the National Civil Police (PNC) Substation 74 in Sacatepéquez received training on animal welfare and protection during November. The sessions were led by the Animal Welfare Unit (UBA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), in coordination with the Departmental Governor's Office, and concluded on November 28.
The training aimed to enhance operational staff’s knowledge about animal welfare principles, current legislation, and intervention procedures. A key focus was on Article 47 of the Animal Protection and Welfare Law, which authorizes PNC agents to immediately rescue and detain animals that are victims of abuse when such acts are witnessed.
According to organizers, "With these trainings, the UBA reaffirms its commitment to strengthen institutional capacities and promote a culture of respect, responsibility and protection towards animals in the country."
