The Center for Guidance and Admission (COA) at Universidad Rafael Landívar conducted fourteen vocational guidance workshops in 2025, aiming to help third-year secondary students make informed decisions about their future careers. The initiative reached 455 young people from educational centers in Guatemala City, Mixco, and Villa Nueva.

The workshops, called “¡Sorpréndete! Explora las maravillas de tu cerebro” (“Be Surprised! Explore the Wonders of Your Brain”), offered an educational experience that integrated neuroscience principles, self-knowledge, and cooperative learning strategies. Through dynamic activities focused on understanding dominant brain quadrants and problem-solving, participants explored their interests, abilities, and motivations to build a vocational path aligned with their academic and professional potential.

The COA’s guidance model is comprehensive and structured in three phases. According to the press release: “This approach reflects the educational values of Universidad Rafael Landívar, especially person-centered support, responsibility, and empathy, offering students tools that go beyond academics and contribute to developing a holistic life project.”

Universidad Rafael Landívar also emphasized family involvement in vocational guidance processes: “At Landívar we value and encourage family participation in vocational orientation processes.”

Throughout 2025, these workshops were held at institutions including Colegio Los Andes, Bilingüe Vista Hermosa School, Colegio Suizo Americano (at its Acatán and San Cristóbal campuses), as well as Liceo Javier—part of the Jesuit Education Network in Guatemala (EJEGUA), which includes Universidad Rafael Landívar. Partnerships with these schools have strengthened their own guidance programs. The teams at these institutions highlighted the usefulness of the support provided.

This initiative is part of a broader institutional process of professional guidance led by Universidad Rafael Landívar. The program was restructured in 2020 and has expanded after the pandemic. It is expected to reach more educational institutions in 2026.
