The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) held a training session for institutional representatives in El Asintal, Retalhuleu. The session aimed to strengthen joint efforts to improve food and nutrition security in the area.

A nutritionist from the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture component led the training. Topics included definitions of food and nutrition security, types of malnutrition, key pillars supporting food security, and factors contributing to food insecurity. The session also covered the importance of public policies and the role of the National System for Food and Nutrition Security (SINASAN) in protecting Guatemalan families' well-being.

The nutritionist emphasized "the strategic role of family farming in increasing food availability, promoting local agricultural development, and fostering more sustainable and inclusive food systems."

During the meeting, participants were reminded that the Technical Table on Food and Nutrition Security serves as an inter-institutional coordination space. It helps identify needs, coordinate interventions, and monitor actions aimed at reducing food insecurity in El Asintal.

This group includes representatives from MAGA, MINEDUC, MSPAS, MIDES, and SESAN. They work together to support community development and nutrition. In El Asintal, this technical table operates instead of the Municipal Council for Food and Nutrition Security (COMUSAN), which is not established in the municipality.
