The Centro de Artes Landívar, part of the Universidad Rafael Landívar’s Vicerrectoría de Identidad Universitaria, expanded its international reach in 2025 by hosting two Peruvian artists for international residencies. The residencies were made possible through cooperation with the Embassy of Peru in Guatemala and internal management by the university’s arts center.

From August 18 to 23, Miguel Rubio Zapata, artistic director and founder of Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani, led a theater residency at the Centro de Artes Landívar’s Laboratorio Teatral. This workshop was designed for Guatemalan actors and theater artists and integrated testimonial theater, body dramaturgy, performance, and Andean traditions. Participants engaged with themes of memory, identity, and territory.

Rubio Zapata also gave a keynote lecture at the Centro Cultural de España in Guatemala. According to the press release: "The Yuyachkani group, a reference in Latin American theater, has been key in processes of memory and reconciliation in Peru after the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission."

From October 13 to 20, visual artist Elliot Tupac conducted a workshop for muralists and graphic designers at Universidad Rafael Landívar. He also led the creation of a mural in zone 1 of Guatemala City as part of an urban renewal project focused on early childhood development. This project involved Fundación United Way Guatemala and the city government.

Tupac delivered a keynote talk through Art Talks. The press release states: "His residency explored the use of color, graphics, and words as languages of identity and transformation of public space, celebrating cultural diversity from a vibrant contemporary aesthetic." The initiative was coordinated by María Alejandra Ac from cultural heritage.

According to organizers: "Both experiences consolidated Centro de Artes Landívar as a space for Latin American exchange that promotes intercultural dialogue, artistic experimentation, and collaborative learning." The residencies reinforced ties between Guatemala and Peru through shared artistic creation.
