Students from Universidad Galileo's School of Diplomacy and International Relations took part in an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of Guatemala's Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office (Procuraduría de los Derechos Humanos, PDH). The gathering, titled “The Political Constitution of the Republic of Guatemala and the Human Rights Ombudsman, a Historic Milestone,” was held at Hotel Real Intercontinental.

The event brought together experts, authorities, and members of the academic community to discuss the historical and current role of the Human Rights Ombudsman in protecting citizens’ rights. Universidad Galileo was represented by students enrolled in Diplomacy, International Relations, and Public Image programs.

According to organizers, participation in such events allows students to expand their knowledge through direct engagement with specialists in the field. The university noted that several students from these programs are currently working within the PDH. These students contribute to analytical work at the institution, applying what they have learned academically to support its mission while gaining professional experience.

"The participation in this meeting reaffirms the commitment of Universidad Galileo’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations to train professionals capable of influencing democratic development in the country. Linking students with high-impact national institutions fosters a more human, strategic, and critical vision regarding human rights management," said representatives from Universidad Galileo.

The event highlighted both historical reflection on constitutional matters and practical opportunities for student involvement in public service roles related to human rights protection.
