On October 18, Universidad Rafael Landívar and the Secretariat of Planning and Programming of the Presidency (SEGEPLAN) signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement aimed at improving access to higher education in Guatemala. The agreement is part of the government’s National Scholarship Fund (FONABE) program, known as “Becas por Nuestro Futuro.”
The partnership will provide scholarship recipients admitted to Universidad Rafael Landívar with resources such as academic leveling courses, personalized tutoring, and job placement counseling. These measures are intended to support students’ academic performance and help them complete their university studies.
SEGEPLAN will participate by sharing information, monitoring student progress, ensuring transparency, and overseeing accountability within the program. This collaboration seeks to manage the scholarship process efficiently while focusing on social impact.
According to a statement from the university, “With this collaboration, Universidad Rafael Landívar, faithful to its mission of forming competent, conscious, compassionate, coherent and committed people, reaffirms its role as a meeting space between academic thought and public policy, contributing through education, research and university outreach to the sustainable development of the country.”
The agreement represents a joint effort to expand access to higher education in Guatemala and promote equity. It also aligns with Universidad Rafael Landívar’s commitment to inter-institutional dialogue and participatory planning. As stated in the release: “This agreement is part of Landívar's commitment to promoting inter-institutional dialogue and participatory planning, reaffirming the conviction that education is an essential tool for transformation and social development.”
