The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has continued its participatory process to develop the National Fire Policy (PNF) with a workshop held in La Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez. The event brought together key stakeholders from the Central Region, which includes Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez, and Escuintla.
Participants discussed various proposals aimed at addressing fire-related challenges in Guatemala. One focus was on constructing a "Problem Tree" to identify both the causes and effects of fire use.
According to MAGA, the PNF aims to coordinate efforts across agricultural, forestry, and environmental sectors to encourage comprehensive and sustainable fire management practices.
MAGA announced that it will continue this participatory policy-building process. Workshops for the Northwestern and Southwestern regions—covering Quiché, Huehuetenango, Quetzaltenango, Retalhuleu, and San Marcos—are scheduled for next week.
"The PNF articulates efforts of the agricultural, forestry and environmental sectors, among others, with the objective of promoting comprehensive and sustainable management of fire use," said MAGA officials.
