Microsoft and Grupo Mariposa have announced a partnership aimed at improving digital skills among Guatemalans. The collaboration seeks to provide training that will help young people and women in Sacatepéquez, Quetzaltenango, and Sololá gain access to better employment opportunities.

The initiative includes the establishment of training centers at three strategic locations: Enrique Castillo Monge School in El Porvenir (between Sacatepéquez and Escuintla), the Municipal Hall of San Juan La Laguna in Sololá, and the CBC agency in Quetzaltenango. Training will cover fundamental digital technology skills, soft skills for effective interpersonal interaction, role-based learning through LinkedIn Learning courses tailored to specific job demands, as well as technical training on widely used technologies leading up to Microsoft certification.

Beneficiaries include young people and adults seeking jobs, shopkeepers, women recyclers from the Atitlán Recicla Cooperative, micro-entrepreneurs, and small business owners from these communities. Daniel Verswyvel, General Manager of Microsoft Central America, stated: “Technology must serve the major challenges of our region and leave no one behind. With this alliance with Grupo Mariposa we want to create opportunities and improve the quality of life for Guatemalans—one person and one community at a time. Together we can empower youth, women, and micro-entrepreneurs with training and digital skills that enable them to access better opportunities that improve their quality of life.”

Grupo Mariposa's CEO Juan Pablo Mata added: “Grupo Mariposa is a people-centered organization seeking to create conditions for multidimensional well-being for its employees, clients, suppliers—especially micro- and small businesses—and promotes inclusive development within communities. This alliance with Microsoft allows us to contribute to developing digital skills necessary for improving economic income and quality of life.”

Erick Sosa, Country Manager for Microsoft Guatemala said: “Digital skills play a central role in fostering a more inclusive labor market adapted to talent demand. By having better-trained people who are more productive we drive development, innovation, and competitiveness.”

The program aligns with both companies' commitment to support U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s Call to Action focused on supporting vulnerable populations such as women and youth by investing in workforce training programs that promote economic opportunity.

Grupo Mariposa describes itself as an organization dedicated to combining talent, passion, and excellence toward building positive impact globally. Microsoft states its mission is “to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.”
